How to Make Apple Fritters in an Air Fryer

bushels of fresh picked apples

Since getting an air fryer a couple years ago, I have had a blast adapting old favorites to this quick cooking method.

And apple fritters are one of the easiest things to make in your air fryer. Like most desserts made in air fryer, the consistency is more cake like than a traditional fried apple fritter. But that’s not an issue, the flavor is absolutely wonderful.

Prep time is quick and depending on the size of your air fryer, cook time is as little as ten minutes.

Other than your air fryer, all you need is a medium sized mixing bowl and non stick cooking spray or parchment paper to whip this recipe together.

You will be using common ingredients for both your fritters and your glaze. The maple glaze goes so well with these apple fritters but if you prefer a traditional glaze, that works well too.

When baking with apples you want to avoid soft varieties as they don’t hold up to the heat of your air fryer.

I’m frequently asked which apples are best for making apple fritters, and you can find my recommendations below.

  • Honeycrisp
  • Jonathan
  • Cortland
  • Braeburn
  • Gala
  • Fuji
  • Honey Gold
  • Pink Lady
  • Winesap
  • Granny Smith

The rest of your ingredients are kitchen staples, so you most likely have everything on hand already.

Once you have your ingredients gathered it’s time to make your apple fritters! Prep time is only a few minutes so let’s get started.

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees

Step 2: In a mixing bowl, add your all-purpose flour, cinnamon, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well combined.

Step 3: Make an indentation in the center of your mixture and add your milk, vanilla extract, eggs, and lemon juice. Stir until well combined.

Step 4: Dice your apples and then add them to your mixture. Gently fold your apples into your mixture.

Step 5: Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper or spray it with non stick cooking spray. If using parchment paper, brush it with a light coating of cooking oil.

Step 8: Cook for 4-5 minutes. Flip, then cook an additional 4-5 minutes. Repeat until all fritter batter is used.

Step 9: Prepare glaze while first batch of fritters are cooking.

Step 10: Cool fritters on wire rack. Drizzle with glaze when your apple fritters are warm.

Step 11: Serve and enjoy!

Maple Glaze Instructions
