Graham Cracker Crust Apple Pie Ingredients

Making this homemade apple pie from scratch doesn’t take a bunch of complicated ingredients. In fact, all you’re going to need are common baking ingredients.
Because the ingredients are pantry staples, you may have everything you need already!
And even if you are missing something, you can find what you need at most any grocery store.
Ingredients List
- Graham Cracker Crust
- Egg Yolk
- Apples (sliced)
- Lemon Juice
- Granulated Sugar
- Light Brown Sugar
- All-Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Ground Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Butter
Graham Cracker Crust: As noted above, I almost always use a premade graham cracker crust for my pie. It saves a little time, and the flavor works wonderfully well. But, you can make your own if you prefer. If you are looking for a great graham cracker crust recipe, I’ve linked one of my favorites up above.
Egg Yolk: We need an egg yolk to brush on our crust. This creates a barrier between our crust and filling which serves two purposes. It prevent our filling from making the crust soggy, and prevent it from seeping all the way through.
Apples: I always use fresh apples for this pie. The flavor is hard to beat, and the little extra prep time is well worth it. Where I live, apples are well stocked at my grocery store so I rarely have trouble getting them for my baking. But if you need a good canned apple pie recipe, I will link it below. You will also find my recommendations for the best types of apples to use for your pie below.
Lemon Juice: This provides acidity for our pie, and really makes all those tasty flavors pop. I do not recommend skipping lemon juice without using a good alternative.
Spices: Just as important as using the right kind of apples, getting your spices right is a must when baking a homemade apple pie. Over the years I have spent a lot of time perfecting my spice levels, and this recipe is about as close to perfect as I have ever got. And nothing produces that classic apple pie flavor better than cinnamon and nutmeg.
