These butternut cookies are so delicious and I always get that warm home feeling when eating them.
They are so good and easy to make they are perfect for the family or a party. They also can be baked into ball cookies or logs. They remind me of evenings at home with my mom baking cookies for the family.
These butternut cookies are just perfect for the holidays but I make them year round. They only take about thirty-five minutes to make and all the ingredients are likely already in your pantry.
How To Make Delicious Butternut Cookies

Homestyle Butternut Cookie Ingredients
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Cup Butter
- 1 tsp. Almond Extract
- 1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 3/4 Cup Sifted All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 3/4 Cup Almonds or Walnuts
As I was saying, you can make these as logs or ball cookies. And both versions use the same ingredients.
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees.
Mix your butter, almond extract, vanilla extract and sugar until it is fluffy.
Add in your sifted flour and salt and stir in until it is well mixed. Now add in your nuts and stir. Walnuts, pecans, and almonds are my favorites to use.
Chill your butternut cookie dough in your fridge for thirty to forty minutes.
Now roll one inch balls by hand and place on cookie sheet. Bake your cookies for ten to fifteen minutes.
Cookies are done when they are light brown.
While your cookies are warm, roll them in powdered sugar and place back on cooling rack.
Once cool, roll your cookies in powdered sugar one more time. Your cookies are ready to serve!
For logs, take your prepared dough and roll it into one long 3/4″ roll. Cut out two inch sections and place them on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for ten to twelve minutes.
