Before frosting your cake, place it on a platter or cake plate that is at least two inches bigger than your cake, all the way around. Then rip strips of wax paper or parchment paper and place it on the edge of your cake plate before frosting your cake. This will keep your cake pan clean of frosting and make for a wonderful presentation.Frosting Tips

Ingredients and Alternatives
If you like recipes without a lot of complicated ingredients, you’re going to love this frosting! And even though most chocolate frosting recipes call for powdered sugar, we will be using granulated sugar instead.
- Unsweetened Baker’s Chocolate
- Granulated Sugar
- Vanilla Extract
Chocolate: I love the texture and flavor that baker’s chocolate provides. Go with unsweetened baker’s chocolate squares as the sweetened variety will provide too much sugar for our recipe. If you need an alternative, go with 4 1/2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder with an additional 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.
Milk: Milk is both a binder as well as included for it’s butterfat content. I recommend using whole fat milk, but you can use 2% if that’s all you have on hand. I wouldn’t go with a lower fat milk though. You can also opt for 1/4 cup of evaporated milk.
Sugar: While most recipe out there require powdered sugar, this one uses regular white sugar. It’s a great recipe for when you’re all out of powdered sugar.
Vanilla Extract: This is added to enhance the flavor of our frosting. While I wouldn’t omit it entirely, you can replace it with another extract such as almond.
When frosting a multi layer cake, use the largest cake piece as the bottom and the flattest topped piece as your top layer.Frosting Tip
