How To Make Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream at Home

For this recipe you will learn how to make both the fudge and the no churn ice cream. You can use pre-made fudge if you want to save some time.

For this recipe I am using my simple no churn vanilla ice cream as a base but you can use any ice cream recipe if you want to use an ice cream machine. I went with no churn as it allows you to make this delicious creamy treat even if you don’t have an ice cream machine.

First you will want to make your fudge. This recipe is easy to follow and it produces amazing fudge for your ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Confectioners Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Whole Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1/8 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts (Pecans, Walnuts, Cashews, any of your favorites work)

Add your butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and milk to saucepan and heat to medium heat. Stir constantly until it boils and continue stirring while it boils for six minutes.

Remove mixture from heat and add in confectioners sugar and pure vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer, mix on medium until mixture is smooth.

Add in chopped nuts and fold until evenly distributed.

Grease a baking sheet with butter and pour fudge mixture into pan. Chill in freezer for twenty-five minutes.

Now begin to make your ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Heavy Cream
  • 14 oz. Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract

Chill two large mixing bowls in freezer for fifteen minutes prior to beginning.

Line your loaf pan (9″x5″) with parchment paper and chill it in the freezer while prepping your ice cream.

Add pure vanilla extract and sweetened condensed milk to chilled mixing bowl and combine.

In your second mixing bowl add heavy cream and mix on high until stiff peaks form.

Add it to your sweetened condensed milk mixture and fold it until combined.

Pour your ice cream into loaf pan and place in freezer.

Put it together

While your ice cream is chilling, take out your fudge and chop it into small pieces.

Fold fudge into ice cream and place back in freezer to chill.

Stir your ice cream every hour for the first three or four hours. Ice cream should chill for at least six hours.
