How to Make a No Bake Caramel Pie from Scratch

This recipe only takes about ten minutes to make so it’s a great last minute recipe for the holidays, get togethers, or for a family dessert.
The only equipment you need is a skillet and a pie pan.
That’s it!
Like I said, this is about as easy as a homemade caramel pie gets. And on top of that, you can use any type of pie crust you like.
You can use a premade pie crust, homemade, or a graham cracker crust. Keep in mind though, if you use a homemade or premade crust, you will need to prebake it.
That’s not necessary if you go with a graham cracker crust.

Homemade Caramel Pie Ingredients

Just because we will be making our pie from scratch doesn’t mean it has to be difficult or include a bunch of hard to locate ingredients.
In fact, for this recipe all you’re going to need are a handful of common and easy to find ingredients.
I like keeping things simple whenever possible, so if you’re like me you’re going to love this recipe!
Ingredients List
- Granulated Sugar
- All-Purpose Flour
- Egg Yolks
- Salt
- Unsalted Butter
- Vanilla Extract
- Milk
Butter: By using unsalted butter, we have more control over how much salt is in our recipe. And getting a great flavor requires the right amount of salt. But, if all you have is salted butter, you can still make this recipe. Simply omit added salt when using salted butter.
Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract adds the perfect amount of flavor depth to our pie. Don’t skip out of it! While I’m all for substituting wisely in kitchen, in this case don’t swap the vanilla extract for another flavoring.
Milk: Whole fat milk is the way to go when making this caramel pie. The added fat content is important for the final flavor and texture. While you can get away with 2% fat milk, do not go any lower. And use whole fat milk if at all possible.

Pie Crust for No Bake Caramel Pie

For this recipe I usually go with a graham cracker crust. The benefit being, not having to fire up the oven.
While this recipe tastes great with a homemade pie crust, if it’s just too hot to turn the oven on, go with a graham cracker crust.
Remember, if you do go with a regular pie pastry, you will need to prebake it for about ten minutes at 350 degrees before adding your caramel pie filling.
