How to Make Homemade Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Brownies from Scratch

Baking brownies from scratch shouldn’t deter you from trying this recipe. It’s quite easy to make and prep time is right around five minutes with a bake time just over a half an hour.
All you need is mixing bowl and baking pan. I use my 10×15 glass baking dish, but a 13×9 can be used. You will just need to increase your bake time by a couple minutes.
How to cream: Creaming butter simply means using your mixer to blend your butter mixture until it is a creamy texture. For these brownies, you will cream your butter along with your peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
Baking Dish: Use a glass baking pan for the best results. Dark pans can lead to over cooking and a dry texture. This recipe is written for a 10×15 baking dish, but as noted above, you can use the more common 13×9 size if that’s all you have on hand. Check your brownies for being done at the noted time, but you may need to bake an additional minute or two since your brownies will be a bit thicker.

Ingredients

All you’re going to need to make these peanut butter chocolate chip brownies are common baking ingredients.
It’s quite affordable, and even if you need to pick some things up from the grocery store, all these ingredients are easy to find.
Ingredient List
- All-Purpose Flour
- Peanut Butter
- Chocolate Chips
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Granulated Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Vanilla Extract
- Eggs
- Butter
Peanut Butter: I usually use regular, creamy peanut butter. But you can go with crunchy if you want to add a crunchier texture. No changes to the recipe are needed. Just make sure not to over mix when creaming your butter with crunchy peanut butter.
Chocolate Chips: I usually go with semi-sweet chocolate chips. The sweetness level is perfect and pairs wonderfully with peanut butter. But this is a versatile recipe, so you can go with just about any style of chocolate chips if desired.
Flour: For the best texture, I recommend using all-purpose flour. It produces a moist and tasty texture. Cake or bread flour can be used in a pinch, they both produce comparable textures.

Step by Step Recipe Instructions

I haven’t timed myself preparing this recipe, but it only takes a couple more minutes to mix together than a boxed brownie mix.
And those extra minutes make a world of flavor difference. While I won’t knock premade mixes (I use them myself on occasion) the flavor and texture of these brownies more than justifies taking a couple more minutes to make them.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease your baking dish.
Step 2: Add your butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar to your mixing bowl and mix until creamy.
Step 3: Add your eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture and blend until combined.
Step 4: Gradually mix in your dry ingredients until well combined. Do not over mix.
Step 5: Stir in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
Step 6: Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes. Your brownies are done when inserted skewer comes out clean.
Step 7: Carefully remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Serve and enjoy!
