Scarecrow crunch is one of my kids favorite fall treat! It is super easy to make and fun so that the kids can help make it.
It offers a great sweet and salty taste that is perfect for those cool fall parties. I’ve been making this for school and home Halloween parties for years now and kids and parents always love the fun festive look.
It is very similar to a standard chex mix with the addition of delicious candy corn. The caramel candy corn is my favorite as it just goes so well with the rest of the flavors.
Last Halloween my oldest son helped make a big batch to take to his basketball fall party and he reported that it was a big hit with his teammates. And since the bowl was empty when I picked him I believe it!
I like to hit the store’s bulk candy section and grab a mix of traditional candy corn and the little candy pumpkins in both regular and caramel flavor.
The little candy pumpkins are so cute and just make the dish so much more festive. Sometimes I have trouble finding them at the store closest to my house but it is well worth driving a bit to get them!
This scarecrow crunch recipe makes for a great snack at home too. Me and the kids like to watch Halloween movies together and this is a great alternative to munching on popcorn when cuddling on the couch.
How To Make Scarecrow Crunch
You can find the quick version of the recipe below but here’s the overview for this awesome Halloween snack.
Scarecrow Crunch Ingredients
- Caramel corn
- Candy pumpkins
- Mini pretzels
- Reese’s Pieces
- Mini Rolos
- Shreddies
- Little Halloween baggies
I like how quick and easy it is to make this crunchy snack mix by using premade ingredients. You can step it up a notch by making your caramel corn, mini rolos or Reese’s from scratch but I just go ahead and get them pre-made.
It’s also great because come fall all the ingredients are in the holiday section of my grocery store making grabbing everything quick and easy.
And all the ingredients are relatively cheap making this a really affordable snack to prepare.
Scarecrow Crunch Snack Mix Step By Step
All these ingredients come together so well and just scream Halloween! The little candy pieces are adorable and kids just love to cute snacks.
The salty pretzels go so well with the caramel corn and chocolates so that the parents will have just as much fun munching as the kids.
First put all of your ingredients into a large serving bowl. I go with a bright plastic Halloween color.
Then, starting from the sides, begin to stir with a large wooden spoon and work your way to the middle of the bowl.
If you are having trouble just use the spoon to lift and turn the ingredients until they are all mixed up.
Don’t go overboard on the mixing though or you will crush your ingredients.
And now you have a huge batch of Scarecrow Crunch ready to be enjoyed!
Create Little Party Bags
When I make this for my kids school or a large family get together I get Halloween sandwich baggies and some orange and black ribbon.
I put one cup of the Scarecrow mix into each baggy and tie it up with a cute little bow.
Each batch makes a little over a dozen baggies so if you are making it for a large group increase your batch size accordingly.
I also run into peanut allergies fairly regularly these days but that’s easy enough to handle. Simply replace the Reese’s Pieces with peanut free M&M’s and you are all set!
